Melrose Family Room

Member Responsibilities

The MFR is a non-profit parent run cooperative, and as such member support and involvement are essential to our continued success.

Below is a list of the responsibilities of every room member:
  • One of the most important member responsibilities is ongoing maintenance of the room.  All members are asked to help clean up the room when they visit.  This includes putting away toys, tidying up after snacks and craft projects and generally making sure the room is maintained in a pleasant condition for use by all.
  • We ask each family to donate a bottle of juice and a box of crackers / cookies per child, twice per year.  Please remember we are peanut-free.
  • We do four in-depth cleanings per year and each member is asked to participate in one of these.
  • Each member is required to volunteer at an event organized by the MFR each year.

In March the MFR officers change, please consider helping run the room by becoming an officer.  Several of these positions carry a free membership.

MFR Member Handbook

The handbook contains our rules, regulations, and important responsibilities for all members.  It's important, please take the time to review.  Thank you.

Rules of the Family Room

The room is open all year, Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Sundays from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  If you have any questions about how the room is run, please contact the appropriate officer or the President of the Melrose Family Room.

Other Important Rules:

  • Parents / caregivers are responsible for the behavior of their child / children.  Please stay close to them while using the Family Room.
  • Parents are expected to intervene in situations involving any child in danger of hurting himself or others.  We give each other permission to gently reinforce the posted rules with any child if the parent is not nearby.
  • All food, juice, play dough, and arts & crafts activities must be kept at the snack / activity table.
  • The refrigerator, food pantry, and storage areas are for grownups only.
  • When you leave the room, please do your part to make sure the room itself and the bathroom is clean and neat.  If you are the last member in the room at night, please turn off the lights and close the windows before leaving.
  • Take care of the books, toys, walls, and furniture.
  • We are only insured for our room.  Please do not let your child play in the hallway or other church rooms.

Many children are overwhelmed or over-stimulated in a setting like ours.  Pay attention to the energy level in the room; if you feel like things are getting out of hand, join another parent to help children re-focus their energy and attention.  Suggested activities might include circle games, singing, dancing to the music, reading books, crafts or snacks at the table.
